Asia+ Festival 2025: Hinotori – The Wings of Phoenix by YAMATO: The Drummers of Japan
The Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre shook with thunder on 7 November 2025, and twenty of our students were right there in the middle of it. They attended the open dress rehearsal of Hinotori – The Wings of Phoenix, performed by the world-renowned YAMATO: The Drummers of Japan.

The performance combined extraordinary athleticism, vivid costumes, and electrifying stage effects, weaving a narrative of resilience and hope. Students were captivated by the sheer intensity and passion of the drummers, who transformed rhythm into a living, breathing force.
Adding to the excitement, one of our students—alongside peers from other schools—was even invited on stage to try playing the taiko drums themselves. This hands-on moment gave them a taste of the power and discipline behind the art form, making the experience even more unforgettable.

For many, this was their first encounter with taiko on such a grand scale, and the experience left a lasting impression. The open rehearsal allowed them to witness not only the artistry but also the dedication behind the scenes, deepening their appreciation for cultural performance.
Our students returned inspired, with stories of soundscapes that echoed long after the final beat. This unforgettable afternoon was more than a performance—it was a celebration of energy, tradition, and the power of art to move people.
