Ballet Magic at HK Ballet's "Romeo + Juliet" Rehearsal
On 17 November 2025, 20 junior form students had the unique opportunity to step into the world of professional ballet when they attended the Rehearsal of Romeo + Juliet (excerpts) presented by the Hong Kong Ballet at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
The event was part of the "New to the Theatre: School Culture Day Scheme 2025/26", organized by the Audience Building Office. Under the direction of Artistic Director Septime Webre, the production reimagines Shakespeare's classic tragedy in the vibrant setting of 1960s Hong Kong. The rehearsal highlighted the fusion of classical ballet with local cultural elements, including traditional kung fu movements, retro Hong Kong aesthetics, and Prokofiev's dramatic score.
Through this experience, students gained valuable insights into the discipline, artistry, and collaboration required in professional performing arts. The event not only deepened their appreciation of ballet and theatre but also broadened their cultural horizons by demonstrating how timeless works can be reinterpreted in a modern context.
The school is proud to support such initiatives, which enrich students' learning beyond the classroom and foster a lifelong interest in the arts.
